The Late Adrian Exley – A Bradford Schools Football Legend
Adrian “Ady” Exley dedicated much of his life to Bradford Schools Football Association and the wider community. A volunteer since the 1980s, Ady took on many different roles within the Association, including managing teams and supporting the development of district football, before eventually becoming Chairman during the final years of his life.
Away from football, Ady also made a huge contribution to the Bradford community through sport and various other projects. He was a dedicated teacher who worked at several schools across Bradford, positively influencing countless young people throughout his career.
During some of the Association’s most difficult years, when interest and involvement had declined, Ady’s commitment never wavered. He kept Bradford Schools Football Association going by ensuring it was registered year after year, even when there was little support from others. His passion for district football and his determination to preserve its future played a crucial role in ensuring the Association survived.
In 2019, Adrian passed the reins of Bradford Schools Football Association on to Lee Walker. However, his passion for the game and for Bradford Schools football remained as strong as ever.
One of Ady’s final and most meaningful achievements was seeing all age groups return to the Bradford Schools football map before his passing in 2022.
The legacy Adrian Exley left behind is immeasurable. His decades of dedication, commitment and voluntary service helped keep district football alive for generations of young players in Bradford.
The late Adrian Exley will always be remembered as a true Bradford Schools Football Association legend.
